Meet The Face Behind ENJOY HOUSE CLEANING

I’m Joyce de Carvalho, the proud owner of ENJOY HOUSE CLEANING.

I look forward to sharing my story. I hope that you will enjoy getting to know me better.

I excitedly came to Canada to work as a live-in caregiver for a family in 2012. My duties included watching the kids, and I was also responsible for cooking, doing the laundry, and cleaning the house.

Luckily, I also got an opportunity to work part-time with a cleaning company, which broadened my horizons. Soon enough, I could see how my routine gave customers relief as they returned at the end of a busy day to a home that was clean, organized, and smelt fresh.

I quickly became passionate about cleaning, so when my contract with the family expired, I began to explore other options. My goal was to transform people’s lives by giving them time to focus on the things that they enjoyed, so I launched a cleaning firm in 2015.

When I first began operations five years ago, I worked hard to market my company by printing business cards and distributing them door to door. Subsequently, after gaining initial awareness, my customers started to refer me to friends and family, which created a demand for my services.

As a result, I hired my first assistant within six months and employed a second person before the end of the year. By the time I completed eighteen months, I had two teams of two, which allowed me to grow significantly.

Since then, the growth has been exponential, which has led to creating larger teams and synergizing with more prominent partners. I’ve also introduced related services by partnering with a reputed firm that complements my thoroughness.

In 2018 I had my first son, which transformed me in many ways. As a mother, I could see how important our job is, and how much relief we could bring to many families, specially mothers. Being a mother is a hard job, and no one should have to do alone. Based on my own experience of being a mother, business owner, and wife, I was able to share with my staff all the importance of our job, and how we could transform lives when we do our job with passion. 

I work hard, and as an individual, I believe what sets me apart from the others is my commitment to continuous learning. I’ve learned about leadership, marketing, and administration, which has made processes more efficient. 

I also attribute my success to being honest with myself, my staff, and my clients. Consequently, my clients trust me to be in their homes and around their precious personal belongings, which makes me super proud.

Besides, I owe a lot of what I have achieved to my ninety-three-year-old grandma, who raised me to become strong like her. Hence, since arriving in Canada at the age of twenty-two, I’ve maintained the same philosophy that she taught me ‘do your best no matter what you do, and you will always get rewarded.’

An example of putting my best foot forward happened last year when I received a Sunday morning call from a contractor requesting a post-construction cleaning of a ninety thousand sqft school building.

I visited the school on the same day and found a big disaster waiting to happen, so I jumped into action by hiring a big team. After procuring all the supplies, I started on the task the next day.

The contractor gave me a timeline of ten days, which was scary, but I could not say no, as I love taking on challenges. In the end, I completed the project with a day to spare, and the client was thrilled, which filled me with immense satisfaction.

When I'm not organizing and cleaning, I like to work on DIY projects, spend quality time indoors/outdoors with my family.
